About Me

Travis Pota-Birkhoff is a dedicated violinist and educator with a strong foundation in both performance and pedagogy. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance with Honors and a Minor in Mathematics from the University of North Texas, where he graduated with a perfect 4.0 GPA. As a Terry Scholar and recipient of the UNT President's List distinction, he has demonstrated both academic excellence and a commitment to ethical leadership, having also been named a Ricco Ethics Scholar for his work on ethical case study analysis.

During his time at UNT, Mr. Pota-Birkhoff performed extensively with the UNT Concert Orchestra, engaging with major orchestral repertoire from Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Mozart, and contemporary composers. He also participated in a wide range of chamber music ensembles, receiving coaching from UNT faculty and performing in recitals, outreach events, and volunteer community engagements. His solo repertoire includes works by Bach, Bruch, Mendelssohn, Lalo, and Mozart, with experience in both studio classes and TMEA Solo & Ensemble contests at the state level.

In addition to his collegiate performance background, Mr. Pota-Birkhoff brings a passion for teaching and mentorship. As a volunteer violin and chamber music coach across Creekwood, Riverwood, and Kingwood Middle Schools in Kingwood, Texas, he led sectionals and coached student ensembles in preparation for UIL competitions and concerts. He provided technical instruction and interpretive insight while fostering confidence and ensemble communication among middle school students of varying skill levels.

He also maintains experience as a private violin instructor, working with beginner and intermediate students. His teaching emphasizes solid technical foundations—including tone production, posture, shifting, vibrato, and expressive playing—while tailoring lesson plans to meet each student’s individual needs and goals.

Known for his organizational skills, thoughtful communication, and supportive teaching style, Mr. Pota-Birkhoff is committed to helping students grow as musicians and individuals. Whether in private lessons or ensemble settings, he strives to inspire a lifelong love of music through high standards, empathy, and artistic engagement.
