About Me
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Mr. Jw (Johnathan Whitehorn) has an extensive background in not just percussion, but overall musicianship. With over 15 years of being a multi-instrumentalist, Mr. Jw has performed in various groups spanning multiple genres including Pop, Electronic, Rock, Jazz, Latin, Symphony Ensembles, Chamber Ensembles, and even Marching Band! All of these experiences have led Mr. Jw to craft an undeniable vision toward music education and a passion for teaching to his students.
Mr. Jw came to Texas in 2020 with the goal of sharing his music and being able to teach music to those willing to learn. Since, he has been in the University of North Texas' Percussion Studio, performing under the names of Paul Rennick, Mark Ford, and Jose Aponte. He has also performed as a solo artist/composer in the DFW area with published recordings with the Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI). On top of these experiences, he also has spent time working directly with The Texas Music Education Association (TMEA) representing Texas Woman's University as a percussionist and logistics assistant.
To Mr. Jw, music education is a tool to not only build better musicians, but also better humans, and a better community. Passing these tools on in a fun and unique way for your student is what he is all about.
